Every year the Emperor walks through the imperial gardens to greet the spring, every year he stops beneath the sakura trees, and every year, artists clamber over each other to try to paint his picture. This will be your year.

From award-winning designer Reiner Knizia, Sakura is a light tactical game of pushing your luck and pushing your friends. Each player will simultaneously decide how far to move both their painter and the Emperor. The player closest to the Emperor when he reaches the cherry blossoms will gain a huge amount of prestige, but if you push too far and bump into the Emperor then you are sure to face his wrath.

Contents: 60 cards, 7 figures, tokens, board.

Review
I bought this on a gamble, being a Reiner Knizia game I thought it should be worth a go. And boy was I right. A very simple and beautiful game. Osprey doing another great job on the components (except for the tri-fold board, which refused to sit perfectly flat on the table) In the game, you play as painters trying to capture the majesty of the Emperor as he enjoys his garden. Unfortunately he keeps walking away and you have to follow him to finish your painting! But be careful not to bump into him and dishonour yourself. On your turn, everyone simultaneously chooses a numbered card from their hand and then reveal. The cards are then actioned from lowest to highest number. Each card has two actions, one to move a painter (not always your own) and one to move the Emperor. Similarly to something like Colt Express, you might play a card with a certain vision of the action only to be stymied by the action of another player sneaking in a lower value card. For instance, you play a card that would move the painter furthest from the Emperor, as at the time that was a rival. Meanwhile, everyone else plays cards that land you at the back of the pack. Not bad right, as obviously you don't want to hit the Emperor. But now if you move forward you leap frog over other characters as you cannot both be in the same space so you find yourself moving further forward and hitting the Emperor, losing one of your Honour tokens. Chaos ensues. This is a great little filler game that looks great and doesn't burn the brain cells. Easily accessible by younger kids as well with a vibrant theme, I find this hitting the table a lot and being given out as a gift as well.
